In the heart of Morgan Hill , near the Centennial Recreation Center , a special new park for kids of all abilities to play is almost complete .

hough Chris Ghione , Public Services Director for the City

T

of Morgan Hill , had hoped this project would be complete at several key dates prior , delays due to COVID-19 staffing issues and loss of time due to December ’ s heavy rain , pushed the opening to late Spring of this year .
The opening can ’ t come too soon for Gladys Hanson Castaneda , a Morgan Hill mother of two children , including a son with Down syndrome . “ My son will be able to enjoy the park fully with no restrictions . I ' m excited that we are providing this for all children regardless of their ability ,” she said .
Ghione explained that all the underground work , storm drains , electrical , water lines to the bathroom and all the infrastructure is done .
Larger pieces , such as finishing the concrete work , particularly for the outdoor classroom , and the pathways , as well as some rubberized elements have taken more time . Most of the equipment has been installed , and the bathrooms are complete .
In some ways , he said , the delay has been a good thing . “ Hopefully due to this extra time we will be past this Omicron variant wave and can have a bigger outdoor celebration .”
