PHOTO # 2 We used a paper pattern they can draw themselves and cut out . They may need help from parents ’ to draw it large .
Cut out the paper pattern and place on top of illustration board trace the tree with black permanent marker . Remove pattern
PHOTO # 4 Ask child to pick their darkest color from the three acrylic paint acrylic colors they have pre-selected . Instruct the child to squeeze “ blobs ” of darkest color across the entire top of the illustration board . Then select next lightest color and squeeze on top of first “ blob ” of darker paint . Repeat with all colors layering on top of each other from darkest to lightest paint . Ask your child tell you which color is next
PHOTO # 6 Pull squeegee all the way to bottom of paper without stopping . Have children wait and take turns . Have newspaper or disposable paper underneath as paint will collect as they pull squeegee off the paper . Clean squeegee between pulls . Talk about the color mixing and praise your child for following instructions . Talk about the magic of the colors mixing !
PHOTO # 7 Ask your child to pull the squeegee one time all the way down without stopping and not going back to top and repeating . See how brilliant the color is with one pull ? Additional manipulation of the color can cause it to get muddy .
Re-outline the tree edges with black permanent marker after paint dries to make tree stand out . The finished result is ready to frame and hang on your wall or give as a gift .
GREAT JOB RIVER AND REMINGTON !
PHOTO # 3 Children select crayon colors and color in tree … putting down heavy color so the crayon wax will resist the paint . Coloring light will not work .
PHOTO # 5 Holding the squeegee firmly at the top of paper , push hard and pull paint down to bottom of paper .
