Supervisor Mike Wasserman is the President of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors . He was elected to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors in 2010 and re-elected in 2014 and 2018 . He represents District 1 , which includes Gilroy , San Martin , Morgan Hill , and 300,000 people in San Jose .

am pleased to announce that the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center ( VMC ) rehabilitation services have been ranked # 1 in California and # 11 in the nation !
Earlier this year , VMC was recognized as a " 2022-2023 Best Hospital " by U . S . News & World Report . For the rankings and ratings , U . S . News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions . In the 15 specialties , 164 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty . They evaluated each hospital ’ s performance using a variety of measures such as survival rates , complication rates , patient experience and level of nursing care . The annual rankings and ratings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive quality care .
This recognition comes as no surprise to the 10,000 individuals with brain injury , spinal cord injury , stroke and other disabling neurological conditions who have been treated there .
VMC ’ s rehabilitation center , containing 64-beds in San Jose , has been treating individuals with brain injury , spinal cord injury , stroke , and other disabling neurological conditions since 1971 . The experience gained over those four decades and the exceptional skills of a dedicated team of rehabilitation specialists has brought advanced treatment , leading-edge research and technology , superior patient outcomes , and renewed hope to more than 10,000 patients and their loved ones .

One of those individuals is the very man who helped raise funds for these vital services : Chris Wilder . Chris served as president and executive director of the Valley Medical Center Foundation , raising more than $ 100 million for VMC during his 18-year career . In March of 2021 , Chris suffered a massive stroke , quipping later , “ While it wasn ’ t my intention to ‘ test drive ’ the VMC ’ s world-class rehabilitation center , I couldn ’ t be prouder of what we all built , and I am incredibly thankful for the fantastic care I received during my almost six-month stay .”
