On the Horizon
Shane is excited about the future of the
department. With Morgan Hill’s growing
population and economic development,
there will be a need to grow and expand
services using new technology.
“With the city’s evolution come
challenges with traffic, housing, mental
health problems, and more transitory
criminal activity. Our officers are smart
and innovative. They bring new ideas
and experiences to the table, knowing
they’ll be supported when doing so.
We have video cameras now, and in
the future we will probably employ
drones at crime scenes that can deliver
real-time video to support our dispatch
operations.
“We’re a small department, which
creates demand to take on more
responsibility that spills into off-duty
time. Ideally, we should have 50 officers
on staff [currently it’s 42]. This would
ensure better coverage when someone
is sick, injured, training, or on vacation.
And it would allow us to implement
a new patrol schedule with a built-in
training day.”

He said their two sons, Connor
(10) and Austin (8) are “full of life.”
Shane and Tiffany enjoy taking them
to Jujitsu and gymnastics workouts
and competitions, and family vacations
camping or snow skiing.
“I think I’m a bit strict, but the boys
don’t know any better yet,” Shane said.
“They’d probably say I’m a playful,
fun-loving dad.”
