County Update With Santa Clara County Supervisor Mike Wasserman Supervisor Mike Wasserman was elected to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors in November, 2010, and re-elected in 2014. He represents District 1, which includes Gilroy, San Martin, Morgan Hill, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno and portions of San Jose (supervisorwasserman.org). Santa Clara County Library District Update S ince becoming Chair of the Santa Clara County Library District Joint Powers Authority (JPA), one of my goals has been to expand hours at our County libraries. After deliberating with my fellow board members and witnessing the hard work of our Library administrators, we were able to do just that. Since last December, the Morgan Hill Library has expanded its Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday hours to 12:00 pm through 9:00 pm and is also open on Sundays from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Now, the Morgan Hill Library is open seven days a week! The Gilroy Library's hours remain Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 1-9 pm with Thursday and Friday hours from 10 am to 6 pm. They are closed on Sunday. I understand the importance that libraries play in a person’s development. Libraries are learning hubs for everyone, regardless of their age, income, or background. In addition to their all-inclusive services, libraries should be accessible every day of the week, so that people can visit at times convenient for them and their families. I encourage anyone interested in checking out books, using a public computer, or attending a library event to visit the website at www.sccl.org. Feel free to look through their events page to pick out an event you would like to attend and register in advance. If you’re new to the Library District, you’ll be amazed at the catalogue of materials and the services they offer! There are many opportunities available to take advantage of: From free coding courses to programs designed for children, teens, and adults. All of these are reasons why the Santa Clara County Library District was designated a Library Journal “Star Library”—an honor bestowed upon only 3% of libraries considered for this prestigious designation. It is my pleasure to serve on the Library District’s JPA Board because I know that any investment in our libraries yields a priceless return.
