NEIGHBORHOOD ALLIANCE Back in 2015, the San Martin Neighborhood Alliance began looking at ways to address the increased trash and graffiti within San Martin. Members, community volunteers and other organizations began holding clean-up events. With the added resources of Supervisor Mike Wasserman's office and collaboration and support from the newly-formed San Martin Chamber of Commerce, the Trash Bash event in 2017 was a true community success. Collaboration efforts will continue with events scheduled for each Spring and Fall. The next Trash Bash event has tentatively been scheduled for March 24th from 9 am to noon at the Sig Sanchez County Building, San Martin. Supervisor Mike Wasserman presented accommodations to San Martin Neighborhood Alliance, the San Martin Chamber of Commerce and Greenwaste Recovery, Inc. for the Trash Bash. GILROY ASSISTANCE LEAGUE ACCEPTING GRANT REQUESTS Local youth organizations and services are being sought to submit grant requests to the Gilroy Assistance League for their 2018 Grant Program. Last year, GALs gave out $19,000 to various youth services, such as DreamPower Horsemanship, One Heart to Another, Gateway School and Eliot School Library. Thanks to generous donors, sponsors, and a very successful 2017 "Impressions” Home Tour, GALs will be able to award $26,000 in grants this year. The grant request proposal forms can be downloaded from their website at gilroyassistanceleague.org. They must be completed and returned no later than Monday, February 26, 2018. Grant funds must be used for local youth organizations and services. Funds will be distributed in late April.
