The County’s Roads
Administration operates and
maintains 62 miles of express-
way and 635 miles of rural
and urban roadways in
unincorporated areas. This
includes 23 miles of sound
walls, 168 bridges, 39 miles of
carpool lanes, 164 signalized
intersections, 4,500 street lights,
25,000 regulatory signs, and
2,185 drain inlets.
Improved Tools for Residents to Submit
Service Requests for County Roads
Residents now have two easy ways to report issues on County
Roads or Expressways such as malfunctioning traffi c signals or
street lights, potholes, graffi ti, illegal or dumping. Complete
the County’s General Service Request at CountyRoads.org or
download the “Mobile Citi zen” App on your smartphone,
take a picture of the issue and submit it. We have heard many
compliments from residents who are using these tools that
their issues are being responded to and addressed quickly.
Dewitt Avenue “S” Curve Roadway
Realignment Project Update
Dewitt Avenue is an arterial roadway that extends from the City
of Morgan Hill into unincorporated County communities. Over
the years, the “S” curve portion of Dewitt has been the scene of
accidents, injuries and property damage. Various traffi c devices

have been installed to provide advanced warning and reduced
speed limit but the number of accidents has not decreased. The
project consists of roadway realignment to eliminate the “S”
curve portion of Dewitt Avenue located between Spring Avenue
and Origilia Lane. It will result in a roadway that is straighter
and fl atter, as well as wider for bicycle use. By realigning the
existing “S” curve, the new alignment will improve the line
of sight and traffi c safety for drivers, bicyclists and residents
using Dewitt Avenue. The County has completed the acquisi-
tion of the right of way from fi ve property owners. The new
alignment will require utility (electricity, phone and water
main) relocation, some prior to and some during the realign-
ment construction. Homeowners will be notifi ed by PG&E and
Verizon on the work schedule. The project costs $2,165,013
and is funded by the Santa Clara County “Road Fund” and
a contribution from the City of Morgan Hill. The project
started on April 24, 2017 and weather permitting, is slated for
completion in November 2017. For additional information on
