NOTE FROM THE EDITOR
BY SCOTT WAGSTAFF
The last few months have been
extremely challenging for many clubs
that have had to withstand the havoc
created by tropical cyclone Debbie with
damaging winds, rainfall and the following
floodwaters affecting many people and
businesses. Having experienced a flood
first hand this year my thoughts go out
to those that have been affected in any
way. There is no easy way to deal with
these difficult times and the reality for
many clubs, including mine, is that this
is the start of a long and challenging
journey.
It has also come to light that the size of
the devastation means the Governments
flood recovery grants have been limited
to $5,000. From what I can gather, the
size of this disaster just hasn’t allowed
for more funds to be spread. For smaller
clubs this may have helped, however, the
reality for medium to larger clubs is this
is merely a drop in the ocean with all
things considered. Not that we should
all be begging for funds to get back on
our feet but the costs for many of us
have been enormous and unfortunately
insurance for many is not available so we
just have to get on with it.
From a GMAQ perspective, we have
had a very successful Education Day in
late April which was very well received.
Big thanks to our sponsor John Deere
and Rene Lubbers for their support and
sponsorship of this event. The insight into
Paul McLean’s life as a Superintendent
was fantastic and a highlight on the
day. The sessions have also been made
available online via Youtube for those
that couldn’t attend.
For our sponsors, we are very grateful
for your continued support which has
allowed us to service our members
needs even better which hopefully
will give you a return on investment
and create a long term and mutually
beneficial relationship. Our sponsors do
not only have great businesses but are a
great group of people that are a pleasure
to be associated with. We hope you feel
the same way!
