THE RED EGG
She sank into her body
Silently stealthily,
Avoiding interference
She felt a swamp fenland,
Her own territory
Yet a treacherous ground.
She became the earth
Set her ears into the fallow
To feel some ripples,
To hear a twinge
To enjoy the murmurs of pain
But no sound, no murmur, no life,
Her belly still lithe, solid
No swellings or drooling of flesh inside.
