Ishtiaque Alam is a young scholar and researcher of international affairs. 25 Nonetheless, Indian army has announced a new limited war doctrine in April 2004, known as ‗Cold Start‘ which will allow the army to mobilize troops and retaliate to challenges posed by Pakistan. This doctrine aims to, in the words of Walter C. Ladwig, ―….to establish the capacity to launch a retaliatory conventional strike against Pakistan that would inflict significant harm on the Pakistan Army before the international community could intercede, and at the same time, pursue narrow enough aims to deny Islamabad a justification to escalate the clash to the nuclear level.‖ To operationalize this doctrine Indian armed forces has started massive scale of modernization and reorganization of offensive powers. India‘s rivalry with Pakistan and contentious relations with China with regard to Arunachal Pradesh help breed a notion, as a scenario, of ―two-frontal war‖ by many Indian security analysts. Although th
