DRONES: JUST EYE IN THE SKY?
MITHUN PAUL*
They are normally installed for
military and special maneuver
applications, but also used in a small
but growing number of civil
applications, such as remote sensing,
commercial
aerial
surveillance,
commercial and motion picture
filmmaking, domestic policing, oil,
gas and mineral exploration and
production, disaster relief, scientific
research, search and rescue,
maritime patrol, archaeology, forest
fire detection and firefighting,
nonmilitary security work, such as
surveillance of pipelines, and many
more future possibilities. UAVs are
often preferred for missions that are
41
and they are flown remotely so there
is no risk to the flight squad.

Drone is an aircraft without a human
pilot on board which is often termed
as ―unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)‖.
It is either controlled by pilots from
the
ground
or
increasingly,
autonomously following a preprogrammed mission. While there
are numerous types of drones, they
basically fall into two categories:
those
that
are
used
for
reconnaissance and surveillance
purposes and those that are armed
with missiles and bombs. In recent
years the use of drones has grown
quickly because of its ability to stay
aloft for many hours, they are much
more low-priced than military aircraft
