Starting from June 26, both Loft Outlet and Ann Taylor Factor will be available for shopping online on separate websites. The products offered on the site will not be different from what is available in the respective stores already, acting as a simple extension of access to services for the end shopper. A few examples of the range soon to be available on the digital platform include smock tie-waist dresses at US $ 70 and petal print swing dresses at US $ 60. The largest size available will be 18. Ann Taylor Factory currently manages 126 stores and Loft Outlet has 166 shops in US and Puerto Rico combined. Synthetic Spider Silk Lab Mumbai: Utah State University’s USTAR initiative-funded Synthetic Spider Silk Lab has received a US$ 420,000 grant from the US Navy Division of Unconventional Warfare to design and develop synthetic spider silk material that could be used to fight enemy targets during military combat. The official name for such devices is nonlethal Maritime Vessel Stopping Occlusion Technologies. The USU Synthetic Spider Silk Lab will also apply silk manufacturing technology to enable the commercial- scale production of other biomaterials. Tirupur: Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA) has welcomed Tamil Nadu government’s decision to organize an international textile fair in the state in November, saying that the move will boost the textile sextor in the state. The textile industry in the state was exporting about Rs 45,000 crore worth products annually and the fair would help in increasing the exports. The event would help textile traders display their products, penetrate new markets and add new buyers. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has announced to conduct the fair at Codissia Trade Fair Complex, Coimbatore, with an expense of Rs 2 crore. Mahlo to showcase at CINTE Techtextil Germany: Mahlo is showcasing at upcoming CINTE Techtextil from 4-6 September in Shanghai. The show is the daughter show of the well- established Techtextil in Germany and is considered to be one of the most important trade fairs for technical textiles and nonwovens in Asia. Mahlo will discuss the latest developments in measuring and controlling of quality critical parameters within the running web. The main focus will be the web gauging system Qualiscan QMS-12. Visitors at the Mahlo booth can also find out more on possibilities for web gauging, as well as technologies for straightening of warps in knitted and woven fabrics. CAIT to stop Walmart’s Flipkart takeover Mumbai: The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has asked for Government’s involvement in the Walmart- Flipkart deal seeking Finance Ministry’s help in what the trader body terms as ‘Cancerous’ deal for the Indian economy. Last month India’s e-commerce market witnessed the biggest acquisition in the e-retail sector, when Walmart acquired a majority stake in the country’s leading e-retailer, Flipkart in a US $ 16 billion deal. However, ever since the deal has been inked, CAIT has opposed the development saying that the deal will create an uneven playfield for the retailers in India. The CAIT has asked the finance minister to understand the seriousness of this matter, as the traders are not expecting commerce ministry to hear their plea. The trader’s body also asked the Centre to form a regulatory authority to look into such matters and monitor the e-commerce market in the country. The CAIT has further proposed a huge protest that will take place on 2 July 2018, against Walmart’s 77 per cent acquisition of the home-grown e-retailer Flipkart which will be spread in 1,000 locations across the nation.
