Underwear import value to USA
USA : The United States of America witnessed growth in underwear import value during January to April 2018 period .
Underwear imports valued at US $ 1133.30 million posting a growth of 1.22 per cent on Y-o-Y basis .
However , quantity of imports fell by 2.91 per cent which indicates that unit prices of underwear upped in the countries where USA is sourcing underwear from .
China fell in its respective exports by 1.82 per cent to earn US $ 239.82 million . On the other hand , Vietnam posted a strong growth of 11.44 per cent as the underwear exports to the USA valued at US $ 185.39 million , pacing up to match China ’ s shipment value .
Further , India surpassed Sri Lanka in the first 4 months of 2018 tapping US $ 104.54 million from its respective export of underwear .
On the yearly note , India grew by an impressive 7.94 per cent . Whereas , Sri Lanka fell drastically by 8.64 per cent and shipped just US $ 90.77 million worth of underwear to the USA in the mentioned period .

Brazilian Cotton prices growth
Brazil : The Brazilian Cotton prices increased in the first fortnight of June due to low supply from the 2016-17 and the 2017-18 crops in the spot market .
According to the Brazilian Cotton Market , during the fortnight , some processors was out of the market as they were expecting the harvesting to advance , which will result in increased domestic supply and the delivery pace .
The price increased is not likely to sustain in the long run as Brazil ’ s cotton output in 2017-18 season is forecast to total 1.959 million tons , which will be a sharp 28.1 per cent jump above the total production in 2016-17 season , according to Conab ( National Company for Food Supply ).
The expected increase in volume is due to a 25.2 per cent increase in area sown with cotton ( 1.176 million hectares ) and 2.3 per cent higher productivity ( at 1,666 kg per hectare ) compared to the 2016 / 17 season .
According to data from Secex ( the secretariat of foreign trade ), the cotton exports from Brazil decreased for the seventh consecutive month in May 2018 . May shipments were down 35.4 per cent to 18,500 tons compared to April 2018 , and 5.6 per cent less compared to 19,600 tons of cotton exported in May 2017 . review period as against US $ 93.38 million shipment value in the same period last year .
Quantity-wise , only Vietnam posted growth which was 0.51 per cent , whereas rest all mentioned countries were down in their respective exports to the USA .
According to the Global Market Research Company , the underwear market in the USA is expected to grow annually by 2.3 per cent ( CAGR 2018-2021 ).
Therefore , if this projection is anything to go by , the top 5 underwear exporters to the USA mentioned above will have a great opportunity to increase their respective market share .
Japan import decreased in Q1
Janapn : Japan witnessed a downfall in its apparel demand in Q1 ’ 18 which ended on 31stMarch . The Quantity-wise apparel import of the country fell 1.32 per cent from a year earlier .
The value too fell by 1.19 per cent as Japan imported apparels worth US $ 6.62 billion as against US $ 6.70 billion in the corresponding period last year . The falling quantity helped keep the import value low which was further supported by the stability of the Japanese yen against the US dollar throughout the period .
Unit prices of imported apparels remained the same as compared to the last year which were US $ 3.98 per kg of apparel shipment . China , the largest apparel exporter to the world as well as Japan , plunged massively in its apparel exports by 7.19 per cent on Y-o-Y basis to earn US $ 3.87 billion .
Further , Vietnam in its respective apparel exports to Japan upped by a significant 13.24 per cent in value terms , whereas India and Bangladesh too noted growth by 7.94 per cent and 4.73 per cent over the export values of prior year , respectively .
Vietnam , India and Bangladesh exported apparels to Japan worth US $ 907 million , US $ 85.46 million and US $ 266 million , respectively during the first 3 months of 2018 .
