“I’ve been preparing for this moment for so long,” Shaker told me, struggling to clarify how pleased he is to be elected president
He explained how the elections left quite a mark on him, teaching him how to be more responsible. It taught him how to continuously fight for his rights and not to give up. “I have to be very careful about the actions that I do, because it can influence other students,” Shaker said.
While running for president, Shaker
had some fears. Because he had a lot of ideas and activities in mind,
he was worried that the students may not trust him and elect him as president. “It was very difficult to win the hearts of people. I had to make every single student have trust that I’m actually going to make a change.” However, now that he is elected as president, he expresses, “It was an amazing feeling.” One of the toughest things he had to do was run against his best friend. “Support is really important. You can’t do this alone.”
