top TEN ATTRIBUTES 1) Approachable As a Rugby Coach, it is our job to be on form, to educate, to enthuse and build a team and club environment around us. How our subjects perceive us makes all the difference so we need to make sure we portray the right coaching attributes and qualities. But which ones are most important? To follow are ten coaching attributes we need to actively practise in order to get the most out of our rugby coaching. It’s the truth, a rugby coach who is approachable already has a head start on all the rest. Think of the last time you watched a Hollywood sporting movie where the Head Coach is known for being a tough nut, screams his head off and gets in the grill of his players. Is this a coaching attribute we want to portray? Most likely the answer is no. Yes, there are going to be times where the temper flares, but maintaining composure and ensuring your players, and parents for that matter, can still approach you. Check that temper, don’t be a screamer. 2) Knowledgable Having a rugby coach who knows what he or she is on about makes all the difference. Providing new drills, fresh ideas and patterns means the world to the players. You would have no doubt been in the position before when you go through the same drills and games at trainings over and over again, and what sort of effect does this have?
