1999 -- Makes first start for England and scores first points for his country, kicking three conversions and a penalty in the 24-21 Five Nations victory over Scotland. Scores all England's points in a 21-10 Twickenham win over France. Plays in his first World Cup as England lose to South Africa in the quarter-finals.
2001 -- Kicks 36 points in the British and Irish Lions' 2-1 tour defeat to Australia.
2003 -- Scores all England's points in 15-13 win over All Blacks in Wellington, giving his country their first ever back-to-back wins over New Zealand. Kicks winning drop goal in last minute of extra-time to give England the World Cup. Also helps England to Grand Slam, was voted BBC personality of the year and IRB player of the year.
2008 -- Overtook Wales's Neil Jenkins as highest international points scorer. Dropped to the bench by England for only the second time in his career as Danny Cipriani starts final Six Nations match against Ireland. Ended the year with a dislocated knee that kept him out of Autumn internationals.
2010 -- Injury struck again as Wilkinson missed Autumn internationals, during which time New Zealand's Dan Carter overtook him as top international points scorer.
2011 -- Regained international points scoring record in Six Nations, only to lose it again, definitively, to Carter in July. Played in his last World Cup as England lost to France in the quarter-finals, Wilkinson's last appearance for his country.
2013 -- Wins European Cup with shock 16-15 success over Clermont, only to then lose the Top 14 final for the second year in a row, this time against Castres. Marries long-time girlfriend Shelley Jenkins in a private ceremony in France.
