How the Treaty of
Versailles Caused WWII
To end a war with over 16 million casualties is a great accomplishment. This, however, is not the case when a much worse war is started because of how WWI ended. The Treaty of Versailles, arguably one of the most unfair treaties. It made the Germans very angry, especially when they first initiated an armistice with the
assumption that they would be treated fairly. The treaty warranted that Germany had to pay the countries for damages, take responsibility for the war, give up land to neighboring countries, and substantially limit their their military. Most agreed with this.
The League of Nations was created to prevent another war like this one. America’s President Woodrow Wilson at the time wanted to join the League of Nations and thought that instead of punishing Germany so harshly that Europe should help stabilize Germany.
