According to Kaepernick, his intention is to get the message across about the inequality of blacks, not to disrespect or disrupt the appreciation of our nations veterans. Although, there are many veterans on the protest side of the situation. United States army vet Richard Allen Smith (along with many other vets) wrote a letter regarding the whole situation and showed support in Colin’s favor. “I wanted to put something out there in the world … to say that ‘There are veterans who not only agree with Colin Kaepernick’s right to do that, but also agree with the substance of the action,’” Smith said.
The protest is still going strong into its 10th week. The league has not spoken on any punishment for the protest recently, but Kaepernick continues to go unsigned due to team owners avoiding drama or are against the protest. We will have to see how it progresses in the future.
