Purpose
Test protocol - Vertical Jump - Single Leg Step In
To test: maximal power of the lower limbs in a vertical plane of movement in motion (cm).
Procedure
• The athlete will tag on using their RFID band.
Standing reach height:
• The athlete will stand with their feet together side-on to the Vertec.
• Keeping heels on the floor and looking straight ahead, the athlete should reach upwards with their dominant
hand as high as possible, fully elevating shoulder to displace the vanes, ensuring the hand and fingers are fully
extended.
• The highest vane displaced by the athlete is recorded as the result.
• The pole height and the last vane displaced are recorded onto a spreadsheet on the laptop as the standing height
reach in centimetres (cm).
Vertical jump height:
• Raise the pole height by 100mm to accommodate the athlete.
• Move several of the lower vanes away before instructing the athlete to stand close to the Vertec for their jump.
• The athlete is instructed to jump as high as possible using an arm swing and countermovement to displace the
vanes at the height of the jump. The athlete will have a single step in to the jump and take off with one leading
foot.
• The athlete should not jump from both feet at the same time.
• Hold yardstick pole steady and in a vertical position during each jump attempt.
• Straighten up remaining vanes between each jump attempt.
• The pole height and the last vane displaced are recorded onto a spreadsheet on the laptop as the jump height.
• The formula in the spreadsheet will calculate the overall jump height in centimetres (cm).
• The athlete will be allowed 3 attempts.
Data Analysis
The difference between the standing reach height and vertical jump height is the final score.
