Japan has a long history dating back to 1300 BC. The
island itself is abundant in natural wonders with a history
rich in culture from painting, calligraphy, poetry,
architecture and of course the samurai. Through time
Japan has had various fluctuations in political stability but
was never conquered by an outside country. The nation
thrives on its cultural history, seeing significance in
respecting and remembering the foundation of the country.
After the death of the Shogunate in the late 1400s, the
island broke into different prefectures (states) all fighting
for the power to rule the entire Island. In this issue of the
Ilk Magazine we will be focused on the prefecture of
Nagano (highlighted in white) located in central Japan.
