Artificial Intelligence ( AI ) and medical industry . Where are we heading ?

Dr Aneez D . B . Ahmed sketches the future of the technology in the medical sector

The medical fraternity , with its collection of physicians , surgeons , and scientists , considers themselves to be at the top of the food chain in terms of where they are placed in the field of intelligence . And when society tells this group of people to add more intelligence to their work to make them even better , accommodation of such news in the community takes some digesting . Welcome to the era of artificial intelligence ( AI ) in the healthcare industry .

From the time of the first attempt at implementing AI in healthcare in the 1960s , when DENDRAL was introduced at Stanford University , the progress of AI was steady but without exponential leads until the early 2000s . Since then , AI has grown exponentially , and today it ’ s almost in every facet of a doctor ’ s life and every nook of a patient ’ s healthcare journey .
I would like to say that AI in healthcare has seven key pillars .
1 . As your personal assistant One of the few things that doctors and nurses hate is writing down chart notes , ordering tests , prescribing medications , and doing all these without making a mistake . Now we have AI platforms and partnerships which have automated the task of supporting administration in all these tasks , so that the patient enjoys a more efficient treatment experience .
2 . Image analysis and interpretation There are currently more than 150 AI platforms which asdf provide a better analytical tool to analyse CT scans , MRIs , and chest x-rays and interpret them
