Global Grassroots 2011

Our second major category of programmatic expenses was building our Global Network. This included training in new methods of mind-body trauma healing for post-conflict and post-disaster environments, exploring partnerships with the Omega Institute and Naropa University for future workshop and tuition-based programs, and representing Global Grassroots’ work at key events such as the inaugural TEDWomen conference and the Omega Institute’s Women & Power Conference. In 2010, given the continued recession, Global Grassroots invested in the support services of a professional fundraiser for the first time. Though it caused our category of spending for fundraising to spike compared to previous years, we have learned a tremendous amount and have invested in new systems that will ensure we will minimize future fundraising expenses while maximizing our ability to cultivate engaged relationships with supporters.

The category of Education, Research & Advocacy included our continued outreach and support for the non-theatrical, community-based use of our film, The Devil Came on Horseback, our in-country research on trauma and alternative approaches to trauma-healing in Rwanda, the development of our first year-end magazine and our support of partner endeavors such as Art Works Project’s Darfur/Darfur photography exhibit and awareness events responding to the sexual violence in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Finally, General Management & Administration includes our overhead expenses, including legal, accounting, business registration and finance fees.
