My dad’ s in custody

Matthew Davey joined Societe Generale in January as managing director, head of business solutions, following roles at State Street, HSBC and JP Morgan. Here, his three daughters – Ellie( 20), Laura( 18) and Anna( 16) – give us their thoughts on their dad’ s job, where it sounds like they are impressed by his travel and‘ fancy meals’.
What do you think your dad does for his job?( Without asking him) Ellie: Some form of banking. Laura: He works in a French bank managing a team of people in various locations. Anna: He works in a French bank called Societe Generale in Paris helping with the bank’ s products and travelling to his team in various locations – Oman, Luxembourg, Milan and Dublin. He works with clients.
Do you think his job sounds interesting? Ellie: Yes, as he gets to travel a lot, but the daily grind sounds pretty boring. Laura: Not really, but I think that’ s partly down to my lack of understanding! Anna: Yes, because he gets to travel to lots of different places and work in Paris, also learning French.
What sounds like best part of his job? Ellie: Being able to live in another country for half the week, especially as Paris is such a major city. Laura: Travelling around the world to different countries and the fancy meals he has with clients. Anna: I think learning French and experiencing Parisian culture sounds like the best part. Also, meeting and going out with clients.
What is your dream job? Ellie: My dream job would definitely be working with children, but I’ m not sure exactly what at the moment. Laura: I’ d like to be a Marine Biologist and to be able to study around the world. Anna: Being a soprano – like Emma Kirkby – in a choral music group.
Would you consider following in your dad’ s footsteps? Ellie: I don’ t think so. If I can, I would rather not be working in an office, although the ability to travel to places like Australia and Hong Kong would be amazing. Laura: Possibly, although I’ d much rather work outside! Anna: No, because I want to do a job which directly helps people, so I want to be a Speech Therapist and make an impact on people’ s lives, not really a business career: I want to work with people and help them.
