With a population of 7M the Bulgarian market has a relatively high rate of passenger car ownership with nearly 44 cars per 100 inhabitants. The demand for used cars is due to Bulgarian’s low purchasing power.
Statistics to March 2017 indicate a steady increase of new cars due to the procurement of 280 new border police cars, a tender won by KIA Motors. Excluding that one-time sale, the first three months of 2017 demonstrated an increase of 17 percent. First quarter new cars registered as M1 and N1 category is 8,282, including four new Teslas. Total number of Teslas in Bulgaria is 50.
Regarding the automotive parts, the trade between Bulgaria and the U.S. has increase – from approximately USD 1 million in January 2017, to over USD 2.8 million in January 2018. Registered vehicles by fuel type
In 2018, and for first time in years, gasoline-operated, and diesel-operated cars are almost at the same numbers, around 1.6M each. A large percentage of gasoline cars, over 10 years old, have installed LPG systems in their vehicles and retrofitted cars use LPG as their primary fuel, and gasoline as their backup fuel.
