Automotive industry is one of the most important branches of Polish industry, accounting for 11.1 % the total value of the production sold. In this respect, it occupies the second place just after the food industry.

In recent years Poland has attracted a substantial amount of foreign investment in the automotive manufacturing sector and, consequently, has become one of the major manufacturers of cars, car parts and components in Central and Eastern Europe. At the same time, automotive manufacturing has evolved into one of the key industries in Poland in terms of production value, employment, capital expenditures as well as share in exports. Moreover, Poland is the region’s largest automotive market in terms of sales and services.

Taking into account manufacturing of motor vehicles, parts and accessories as well as trade and repair services related to cars and car parts, the Polish automotive industry is among the largest in Central and Eastern Europe. According to the most recent data available from Eurostat, in 2016 the turnover of automotive manufacturing companies in Poland amounted to EUR 34.3 billion. EUR 39.5 billion of turnover was generated by companies involved in the trade and repair related to cars, car parts and accessories.

While most European countries suppress 10+ years old cars with diesel engines especially, in Poland those type vehicles import grows up. The main reason is so obvious. Used cars are much cheaper than the new once at the level of 20 000-40 000 PLN. People chose those cars mostly. Still they buy what they can afford. The new cars prices are pretty high at average price 70 000-75 000 PLN, so 78% of brand new vehicles goes to large companies and corporations, only 28% to ordinary citizens. Comparing quantity of sold cars in Poland in 2018, there were almost 500 000 new cars sold vs almost 1 000 000 of used cars. It shows that price factor in this sector is still crucial.

Electric mobility is branch that is still not exploited in Poland. Instead of expected million vehicles sold during present decade there are just few hundreds running on Polish roads, until the end of 2018. Electric mobility expand demands some government rules to be implemented such tax credits, premiums and traffic privileges applied to electric vehicles.

Observing western Europe and Scandinavian countries it`s so obvious that this sector of market has a great potential. It’s a great opportunity for foreign investors to be involved in public and home charging points setting, building electric vehicles dealership structure, setting the services net and develop aftermarket spare parts market.
