Hidden Treasure THE MUSEUM OF MAKING MUSIC T Music to Your Ears and Eyes he Museum of Making Music (MoMM) was developed by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) and opened to the public in 2000. Housed at NAMM’s global headquarters in Carlsbad, MoMM is the only music museum in the world that focuses on the ecosystem of music-making from 1900 to today. MoMM tells the story of the musical tools and instruments that enable us to make, hear and enjoy music. Through unique exhibitions, vibrant and varied live music performances, and innovative educational programs, MoMM shares the accomplishments and impact of the people who make, sell, and use musical instruments and products. Want to learn to play a musical instrument but you don’t know where to start? MoMM can serve as the launching pad of your musical journey. In the museum’s interactive room, kids and adults can have a hands-on experience with a variety of instruments, 38 GBSAN.COM | MARCH 2020 everything from electric guitars, to drums, keyboards and more. MoMM encourages its visitors to explore their artistic side and unleash their creativity by developing a passion for making music. The organization offers educational immersion opportunities, exhibitions, hands-on music making experiences and live performances that inspire. MoMM curates public exhibits that relate to the history of the making of musical instruments as well as their usage and impact on our musical landscape. The museum’s galleries feature more than 500 vintage instruments and artifacts on display, hundreds of audio samples of popular music and an area for visitors to interact with a variety of instruments.
