LHAQ’TEMISH
T
he Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay
Nation hosted members of the
Lhaq’temish or Lummi Nation, the
original people of Washington State
and British Columbia’s coast, as they
seek to bring back Tokitae, the killer whale taken from
their ancestral waters in the Salish Sea. A 16-foot
totem pole carved with the killer whale and seals
accompanied them as they crossed the country to
Florida to bring attention to their cause.

a Sycuan Band de la nación Kumeyaay fue anfitriona
de los miembros de Lhaq’temish o Nación Lumni,
pueblo originario de las costas de los estados de
Washington y British Columbia, que están queriendo
revivir Tokitae, la orca sacada de los mares
ancestrales de Salish. Un tótem de 16 pies tallado con la orca y
focas los acompaña en su travesía por el país hasta Florida, con el
objetivo de crear conciencia sobre su lucha.
