gaining awareness around the world. Organizations have been established and the U.N.
has dedicated March 22 as World Water Day in an effort to raise awareness. But what is
awareness without action?
Now imagine being a part of a group of dedicated individuals sharing their time, money,
and resources, to ensure that everybody on earth has access to clean drinking water.
Give Clean Water is a nonprofit organization, established in 2008 with a mission to
provide clean, safe drinking water to all on earth who need it. For the past 10 years
they have worked with volunteers, organizations like churches, Boy Scouts, Rotary, and
private donors to give the gift of clean water to over 50,000 people.
The Give Clean Water Way is all about tracking outcomes, knowing that what we are
doing is truly having an impact in the communities and homes. Due to our education,
training and follow up process, we can account for a family’s financial savings, medical
savings and work days recaptured. On average a family in Fiji who receives a water filter
saves $52.96 per month.
As described by a nurse who lives in
Sasa, Fiji: “The help provided by Give
Clean Water has been an immense
help to us. We often have to walk to
get water from the family down the
road. During the floods, we only had
the river. Now we can use this filter
to drink from the river or from rain we
collect. I will encourage everyone to
use this.”
While their work began in Fiji, Give
Clean Water’s goal is to partner
with like-minded individuals and
organizations to put a clean water
filter in the home of every family
who does not have access to
adequate drinking water. They are
currently expanding their reach and
partnerships around the world with
organizations in Liberia, Marshall
Islands, Gambia, Togo and Burundi!
