Making A Difference
S
ince 1980, Make-
A-Wish ® has given
hope, strength and joy
to children with life-
threatening medical
conditions. Make-A-Wish® San Diego
grants wishes to eligible children in San
Diego and Imperial Counties. They rely
on over 200 dedicated volunteers to
grant the wishes of children in the San
Diego region but are in urgent need of
bilingual Spanish-speaking volunteers.
One of the biggest volunteer needs
currently at Make-A-Wish ® San Diego
is for bilingual Spanish-speaking
translators who can work directly with
local wish families to help translate
during their wish process. A translator’s
primary role? To help understand and
communicate the one true wish of a
child with a critical illness, as well as the
reason behind the child’s most heartfelt
wish. Usually, the timeframe for a wish
to be granted is between 6 to 9 months
without a language barrier. When there
is a language barrier, Spanish-speaking
families have to wait longer for a bilingual
volunteer to become available, therefore
volunteer translators are integral in
helping grant the wish of every eligible
child without delay!

Now, Make-A-Wish San Diego
is looking for as many bilingual
Spanish-speaking volunteers as
possible. Currently, 23% of all wish
families are Spanish-speaking only as
more kids are being referred to Make-
A-Wish.
