Interview

with Megan Wheeler

Hi, Megan! To start off, can you please briefly introduce yourself to our audience?

Where are you from? What kind of art do you create? (and whatever else you’d like to share…)

GS&NS: Hi, Megan! Please introduce yourself to our readers.

Megan: If you hadn’t noticed, my name is Megan Wheeler. I graduated from Kuna High School in 2015, and now am in my 4th semester at Boise State University. I am an English Major with a Writing focus, and an ASL Minor. No, I don’t really know what I’m doing and I don’t really know what I’m going to do as an English Major, but I’ll figure that out later. I love writing-- in case that wasn’t obvious when I said I was an English Major. Writing is just such a beautiful way to express myself and it almost feels like a super power. Manipulating words to create images in the mind-- now that’s magic.

GS&NS: I appreciate the vulnerability of “You Were The Stars To Me”, which is a poem largely about love and loss. What inspired you to write it?

Megan: I wrote this poem in my creative writing class my senior year of high school. The topic was Unrequited Love. Looking back on this poem, I can’t help but cringe a little bit. A lot of the emotions behind this poem are no longer present in my life today.

GS&NS: “You Were The Stars To Me” starts and ends with the speaker in water. Why is that significant?

Megan: I think I was trying to keep an eerie yet calm feeling throughout the poem, and the presence of the water and fog helps that.
