3. Appear to know where you’re going I quite often get stopped and asked for directions when travelling. I consider this a successful blend into the environment. Even if I’m lost I walk confidently and wait until I’ve found a sheltered corner to get my map out. If you seem to belong to a place and look self-assured you immediately become less of a target for unwanted attention. 4. Less is more Planning on lugging a huge suitcase around or a backpack bigger than your wardrobe? Don’t! Just don’t! The more you have the more there is for someone to take from you. Thieves are more likely to target you, plus a heavy bag will slow you down if you need to make a run for it. It’s easy to forget that you can pretty much buy anything you need anywhere you go in the world. You don’t need much to survive and you can really take freedom and exploration to the ultimate level when you cut down on your baggage. 5. Use Common sense It’s pretty simple; don’t walk through parks or down dark alleys late at night, don’t walk around with your smart phone constantly on show, don’t get into a strangers car just because you’re on holiday and it could be an adventure - you get the idea. Sometimes you just need to ask yourself ‘Would I do this at home?’ if the answer is no, then you really have to question why you’re willing to do it in a place you don’t even know.
