Temazcal or the Aztec Sauna You
cannot leave Oaxaca without having tried the traditional Aztec sauna.
The temazcal is a clay-made room
with medicinal plants placed above
burning rocks. Water is poured on
the rocks resulting in a warm vapour,
impregnated by the aroma of the
medicinal plants. A temazcal can be
used for meditative or curative
purposes, or simply for pure
relaxation. It is certainly the best
way to end a hike in the forest, or to
prepare for the next leg of your trip.
