COAST...
I started at sea level because it was the cheapest
flight option and because I could then finish the trip
in Oaxaca City, where flight connections to other
parts of the country are easier. The coast of Oaxaca
is unlike any other coast in Mexico. Most towns are
comprised of small local hotels and shops, which
makes ATMs and big shopping complexes almost
non-existent; though there are some bigger metropolis with the usual comforts. The best time to go is
during low-season which is September to December
when a calm and quiet atmosphere predominates.
Huatulco This town has both decently priced hotels
starting at £10/room per night and luxury hotel options that can go up to £120/room per night. Apart
from tanning on its ever warm, sandy beaches, you
must vis it Huatulco National Park. You can hike the
tropical forest, swim in the ocean or simply enjoy
the natural views. There is even a chance to see a
diverse group of tropical species such as leopards
and marine turtles. Food-wise, try the local homemade cuisine at the central market, especially the
traditional tlayudas, a tortilla with beans, Oaxaca
cheese and salsa.
