How did you begin your creations?
I was living in LA at the time, studying
theatre. I did a semester in fashion design,
which really got me started. I began
creating my own accessories as a hobby
in my room. I would buy kimono’s and cut
pieces from them, sometimes cutting all of
it into small parts to use. I actually financed
my way through school by selling my
accessories. I had no production or
distribution, I was just selling them one
by one to stores or people in the theatre
school. My sister (Jamie Lee Curtis) also
wore them on the red carpets.

Where does your inspiration
come from?
My inspiration definitely comes from
travelling so much as I was growing up.
I lived in so many different places such as
Los Angeles, Hawaii, Miami, New York,
Germany and Spain. I always say I was
practically born on a plane, as I’ve
travelled so much as a child with my
parents. My mum (Christine Kaufmann) was
a stage actress and my father (Tony Curtis)
was a film actor so we were always
travelling, living on different film sets.
I always take in all the beauty around me
when I’m travelling. I have so many friends
who spend their lives working, planning and
not being in the moment. I think it’s
important to appreciate your life and be
grateful for the beauty there is around you;
that’s what I love about Spain, things are
