Bernadette Thexton, 33
stocks sumptuous eclectic and ethical jewellery and
homewares in her online lifestyle and homewares store
Elk & Bloom and is based on the Gold Coast, Australia.
How did Elk & Bloom begin?
Elk & Bloom grew from a small handmade business I had been
operating for a number of years that focused mainly on children’s clothing and accessories. I wanted to expand into a wider
market that encompassed all of my passions and the lifestyle I
love while supporting other designers along the way.
What’s the best thing about being your
own boss?
The freedom and flexibility, being able to create your own
vision and making changes based on personal and professional
growth. I also work from home so being able to wear yoga pants
and not having to do my hair is another perk.
How do you select the products you stock?
Fave product from your shop?
We have a modest and carefully curated range of products
from like minded creatives who share our consumer values. We
focus on handmade, independent design and small businesses
and look for products with strong ethical and environmental
qualities.
At the moment it would be our Crystal Quartz Necklace, handmade by US designer Violetfly. It’s so delicate and feminine and
the crystal is a great boost for energy.
