As Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary General once
said, ‘In war-torn societies, women often keep societies going.’ They are apparently also the ones that keep
peace going. While it is naïve in the extreme to think
that non-governmental organizations on their own can
bring long-standing conflicts to an end, there is a place
for organizations that bring together women from different cultures in the peace process. As Castle-Dunn
put it, ‘Looking at this conflict as an outsider is a little
like moving abroad -- you may have strong reactions
and strong opinions, but the minute you start to ask
questions, to seek to understand, you learn something
about yourself and about humanity.’
