What inspired you to
become a tattoo artist?
I started tattooing about 4 and a half
years ago when I was living in
Taiwan. I’ve always been good working with tools; I can draw, paint,
sculpt, solder, weave, carve, sew so I figured I could learn to tattoo as
well. I walked into one of the best
shops in Taiwan and asked the only
English-speaking guy in the shop
how I could get started. After showing them some of my work, I was sold
a starter kit, along with some sheets
of latex and sent home to practice. I
went back a few times over the next
weeks to show what I’d done and
get some tips on how to improve my
technique. I couldn’t get an apprenticeship because of the language
barrier, but I was able to figure things
out well enough on my own. In less
than 2 months, I was told it was time
to find real skin to work on.
What inspires your art and/
or tattoos?
I’m inspired by the natural world.
I enjoy working with plants, animals
- natural shapes – and I lean towards
realism more than the abstract.
