Tell us about your journey cycling
through Europe
I started in Athens, Greece and then visited a few Greek
islands. My plan was to head west towards the coast and
then north to take a ferry to Italy. Before things even got
started, my bicycle was stolen. I stepped off the ferry
from Santorini at 5 a.m. and fell asleep in a waiting room
at the train station. Though my bicycle had been locked
up beside me, when I awoke it was gone, as was the pack
I’d tucked between my head and the wall behind me. It
took 5 weeks to recover from the theft. I had to replace
my passport, laptop, heaps of technical gear and of
course, the bicycle. My friends and family were extremely
supportive; it was the kindness and generosity of loved
ones and strangers alike that helped me get back on my
feet and on the road.
