When a local coach and I began a GRS program I was amazed by how much the kids loved it and we were thrilled by the results. Reported risky sexual behaviour and stigmas were down and knowledge, attitudes and communications about HIV were improving. I became such a believer that when my time in the village ended, I moved to Cape Town to support Grassroot Soccer’s global programs. Today, GRS works in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Zambia and 42 other countries worldwide and has reached over 650,000 youth. Co-Coach, Miehleketo, & Kelsey Griffiths with one of our GRS Graduates. Limpopo, South Africa What can GGIs do to help? Check out GRS Girls United, an initiative led by US Women’s National Team forward Christen Press to support SKILLZ Street, an award-winning GRS program that creates a safe space where girls can play soccer, build important relationships, learn life saving information and get tested for HIV. A group of donors are matching funds for every goal Christen scores in 2014; this means your donation, in any amount, will be doubled.
