My mission with the blog is to give the world a native
Yemeni’s perspective. I started the blog because I could
not find a blog that addressed issues such as politics and
human rights to my generation and in English. I was also
tired of foreign ‘experts’ talking about Yemen’s affairs from
their own perspective, clouding their reports with slanted
representations of Yemen. For instance, I never connected
with the narrative of oppressed Yemeni women, and instead, tried to do something about it by having tea at a
men’s-only cafe in the first month of the uprising in 2011.
