Thirty Years Later
I traveled by cargo ship again
aboard The French Freighter Matisse
with its French officers, a Romanian
crew and 6 paying passengers. It
was 195 meters long, weighed over
30,000 tons and cruised at 20Kts.
The trip took 28 days from Savannah,
Georgia through the Panama Canal to Sydney, Australia. The experience was much different from what
I had experienced 30 years prior. My
days were spent on the deck or the
bridge, I painted and read. Nights
were spent in the lounge watching
French movies or on the deck looking for the Southern Cross. In the
end I found myself not wanting to
disembark.
