Chelsea at Sea Job title Expedition Photographer Age 25 How did you end up working on a ship? I was inspired by my father’s neighbor who had worked as a photographer onboard. Upon hearing of my plans to travel, he introduced me to life as a ship’s photographer. My life on a ship In the last year I’ve worked 3 contracts with Hurtigruten’s expedition ship, Fram. I am a member of the Expedition team while I’m onboard, which is full of the smartest, most adventurous people I have ever met with credentials that span from geologists, historians and glaciologists to artists, musicians and outdoor experts. I give lectures on the basics of photography to guests and help them with their cameras. Then I have to edit and compile my photos from the day into a slideshow to sell to the passengers at the end of each trip. What is it like to live where you work? Your cabin becomes your home and your fellow crew becomes a family of sorts. Living where you work is both convenient and fun as long as you make time for yourself. It’s easy to get wrapped up in work when you’re living at the office. “Once you’ve worked on a ship, a part of your mind and heart will always be onboard.” Chelsea in Greenland, 3am
