What is it like to live
where you work?
It’s like a small town
on a ship, so there’s
little privacy. If you find
yourself in a ‘walk of
shame’ situation, be
prepared to walk past
the captain, all of your
colleagues and probably an ex-boyfriend or
two on your way back
to your cabin.
You’re always on call
and once a week there
are cabin inspections.
I still struggle with the
fact that people can be
sacked from their jobs
if they have a messy
room.
How has this work
influenced you
professionally?
Working on the ship
has made me respect
Bartending as an actual career rather than
a stop-gap. For now, I’m happy where I am
and I’m not rushing to ‘grow up’.
How has this work influenced your
personal life?
This work made me appreciate my family so much more. Skyping home can be
heartbreaking when you see what you are
missing in the lives of your loved ones back
home. On a romantic level, ‘ship love’ happens hard and fast. People who don’t
know each other one week can be head
over heels and planning to marry a ?B??fP?F?V6??F?W'>( ?6?V?G&?W2F?R?W?B?F?R&W7B?B?&FW7B'G2?`?v?&???r??6????F?R&W7B'B?2?f??rg&?V?G2g&???fW ?c"F?ffW&V?B?F????F?W2??V&???r&?W@?V6??F?W.( ?27V?GW&W2?BvWGF??rF?7V?@?F?2v?V?F?R6???2F?6?VBBF?R&V6??G&???r?;6??F2?"W???&??r????'V??2?F?R?&B'B?2?WfW"vWGF??r???WFRF???W'6V?b??
