ravel
Whether a cargo ship has 1 or 101
passengers onboard, it will still sail
and use just as much fuel, making
your journey almost completely
‘carbon neutral’.
Length of Voyage
The average length of voyage with freighter
travel is between 40 and 50 days. With
that said there are shorter trips that last a
couple of weeks and longer voyages that
last between 80 and 100 days.
If time is not a factor for your adventure you
can also travel by tramps which are cargo
ships with no fixed schedule, going where
they are needed. You can book last minute
with tramps, however you cannot plan on
when the next tramp will be in port.
Destinations
There are worldwide destinations for
your exploration possibilities. There are
roundtrips available such as the passage
from the U.S. West Coast to Australia/New
Zealand and a westbound voyage from Los
Angeles, CA. to Hamburg, Germany.
Departures
Worldwide. Also remember that unless you
are planning on travelling by Tramps, you
should allow several months to plan your
trip. Port stops last no more than 18-24
hours and most travellers who travel by
freighter do so to experience being at sea.
