I feel honoured to have been accepted into
their community, albeit for a short time.
What was the biggest challenge you faced
on the ship?
Not having access to the internet. It helped
me realise how reliant we are on the internet for communication. We received daily
news updates from the head office and I
had an email account on board that enabled me to stay in touch with my father on
a regular basis, but that was it. My limited
interaction with the outside world forced
me to be present and appreciate the here
and now. It was a journey in more ways
than one.
Who was the most interesting person you
met onboard?
The Chief Officer became like an uncle to
me. We have stayed in touch via email and
since the journey, we were able to meet up
for a drink when his ship was at port
in Athens.
How hard was it to plan this journey?
I started the planning stage a year in
advance and I decided to go through an
agent. I chose to organise it via The Cruise
People, a company specializing unusual
and interesting cruise alternatives. I think
for this type of trip it is important to be
equipped with as much information as
possible. Having professional advice and
support made it all possible and the communication and efficiency from the agency
helped me feel confident about my
decision.
