Hit the town and go dancing
Head downtown to Laugevegur, the
main strip for shopping and clubbing.
Alcohol is very expensive but you can
get your happy hour on at B5 on Bankstraeti until 10 p.m. Failing that, do as the
Icelanders do and have friends over to
your place for a few drinks before heading out to the clubs at around 1 am. The
legal drinking age in Iceland is 20 so if
you are baby-faced, bring your ID.
Enjoy the view
As cocktails cost about 20 euros a pop
in bars, make your own and sit on the
rocks next to the sea, downtown opposite the Reykjavik Mountain.
Coffee hotspots
Cafe Haiti in the Harbour is very exotic
and cosy with coffee to die for. Cuddle
up on the big sofas, enjoy the view out
to sea and tackle Jules Verne’s Journey
to the Center of the Earth. Cafe Babalu
on Skólavörðustígur is run by an American couple who understand why we
need huge cookies in our lives. They offer free refills on normal coffee and they
have just extended their space.
Be there at sundown!
Experience the midnight sun during the
Arctic summer. Sunset is at midnight,
sunrise at 3 a.m. and it is never dark
enough for the stars to come out. Outside of summer watch the sun set from
the small harbour behind the Harpa
Music Hall.
