GIRL OF THE MONTH MARY SARAH Mary Sarah is a singer and songwriter. Have you always enjoyed the art of music? YES. My parents tell people that I used to sing my homework in grade school! We’ve also really been together as a family doing my music. My sister Emilee does a lot of the graphic designs for my posters and merchandising. My brother Chris used to manage my website and did the design for it when we started. My mom and dad besides being parents and there to help the resources, are usually there at all my performances. Music is a family affair - we put on a big show in Sugar Land every quarter called Opry On The Square as a family too. Best advice ever given? “Hard work beats talent when talent won’t work hard.” My dad quotes that to me all the time. “Don’t go the overly sexy route” - The legendary Ray Price told me that. How have you obtained the self-confidence it takes to perform in front of large crowds? At age 12 I was touring with a rock concert for kids called the Kidzbop World Tour. Being in front of 3-5 thousand people for 29 dates in six months was amazing and really helped me to get comfortable on stage. The bigger the crowd the easier for me. It’s the small venues where it’s really quiet that are the hard ones to do! The more you do it, the better you get at it. What is your best advice for someone who would like to follow in your footsteps and doesn’t know where to begin? Sing anywhere, everywhere, anytime, anyplace for anyone that will give you a stage.
