GIRL OF THE MONTH
MARY SARAH
Mary Sarah is a singer and
songwriter.
Have you always enjoyed the
art of music?
YES. My parents tell people
that I used to sing my homework
in grade school! We’ve also really
been together as a family doing
my music. My sister Emilee does a
lot of the graphic designs for my
posters and merchandising. My
brother Chris used to manage my
website and did the design for it
when we started. My mom and
dad besides being parents and
there to help the resources, are
usually there at all my
performances. Music is a family
affair - we put on a big show in
Sugar Land every quarter called
Opry On The Square as a family
too.
Best advice ever given?
“Hard work beats talent
when talent won’t work hard.” My dad quotes that to me all the
time. “Don’t go the overly sexy
route” - The legendary Ray Price
told me that.
How have you obtained
the self-confidence it takes to
perform in front of large
crowds?
At age 12 I was touring with
a rock concert for kids called the
Kidzbop World Tour. Being in
front of 3-5 thousand people for
29 dates in six months was
amazing and really helped me to
get comfortable on stage. The
bigger the crowd the easier for
me. It’s the small venues where it’s
really quiet that are the hard ones
to do! The more you do it, the
better you get at it.
What is your best advice
for someone who would like
to follow in your footsteps
and doesn’t know where to
begin?
Sing anywhere, everywhere,
anytime, anyplace for anyone that
will give you a stage. It’s not about
