Location of Retailers

Oxford Street and Carnaby Street are two of the most popular retail locations in the world. Oxford Street and Carnaby Street are situated in the West End of London, they are very close together, however they are very different streets.

Oxford Street is 1.2 miles long from Marble Arch all the way along to Tottenham Court Road. Oxford Street is very easily accessible; you can walk from Charring Cross Station, as well as many tube stations that are placed along Oxford Street such as Marble Arch, Bond Street, Oxford Circus and Tottenham Court Road Station. There is also many buses that people can get like the 73, the 55 and the 23. Oxford Streets main target customers are teenagers, adults as well as tourists. Oxford Street is the location of many Flagship stores like Topshop and Urban Outfitters. Oxford Street has a variety of stores, however they are mainly high street stores such as H&M, Boots, Accessorize and New Look. There are also some high end stores such as Selfridges, All Saints and Moss Bros. Oxford Street is such a good location for business’ because it is in the heart of London, this means that retailers have a wide customer base that includes office workers, tourists and the general public. The foot fall is very high all year round as millions of people visit Oxford Street on a yearly basis.

In comparison, Carnaby Street is quite different to Oxford Street. It starts at Beak Street and ends on Great Marlborough Street. The nearest tube station is Oxford Circus, where you can get the Bakerloo, Victoria and Central lines. Due to the fact that Carnaby Street mainly sells high-end brands such as Mac, Barbour, Levi and Puma. Carnaby Streets main target audience is aimed at high income earners., As Carnaby Street is a key tourist location, and is in the vicinity of Oxford Street, it also attracts thousands of visitors a day. This tends to mean that business' are normally successful in such a prime location.

Both of these locations are very similar yet they are also very different. Each street is different in size as Oxford Street is a very wide and long street, where as Carnaby Street is a narrow and short street. Carnaby Street has just over 100 shops, however Oxford Street is the home to over 300 shops. Carnaby Street sells very expensive and high-end brands, where as Oxford Street sells much less expensive and high street brands. Yet, both of the locations are very similar. Both locations are in the central West End of London, as well as having many transport links. They are both the home of flagship stores for many brands such as on Carnaby Street the Puma store is the flagship store and on Oxford Street there is the flagship store for New Look. The main similarity for both of these locations is that they raise the income for all of the stores situated along the streets because the West End is such a prime and important location for stores, as overall there are millions of visitors a day.
