What Is Funkalicious?
When I first came up with The concept of Funkalicious , I was in the mood of creating something fun. Something that would bring listeners back into the mood of the seventies. I have a fun quirky personality and I really enjoy creating songs that make people happy.
In naming this song I thought I would be creative. And I wanted to make up a funky word. Many people have done it for years. So why not me? But I think the important thing is to have fun when you’re making music. As an artist it’s not always wise to be so technically correct when creating. I think if you get too caught up in the theory aspect, you take the chance of absolutely squeezing the life out of your creativity. I don’t ever want to squeeze the life of my creativity.
It took me around two days to write and record the song.
The song is simply about a gentleman that has that 70 soul swag. A gentleman that has all the qualities I like. He smooths like silk, just like buttermilk. He’s cool and he has soul. He’s goovyfunkalicious!
My first approach to the particular song was to make it super funky! It had to have a funky baseline and hook no questions asked! So I started with the bass and added some horns next and the rest was history.
In creating songs. I will usually start
with a baseline. I think the baseline set the tone of the song and tells me what
to write about. The melody seals the deal. After that, you know what type of song you need to write.
I’ll have to say funkaicious is my favorite song on the album. Im not sure as to
why, I guess it just moves me more than the others.
