Annual Dia de los Muertos Celebration
Presented by Gilroy Arts Alliance and Community Agency for Resources Family Fund
On Saturday , October 25 , the 3rd annual Dia de los Muertos celebration was held at the Gilroy Center for the Arts .
Gilroy Arts Alliance in partnership with Community Agency for Resources , Advocacy and Services ( CARAS ) coordinated the evening ’ s activities . The Latino Family Fund of the Gilroy Foundation funded the event . The evening ’ s activities included arts and crafts vendors , face painting , sugar skull decorating , and folkloric dance and music .
In the art gallery , there was a photography exhibit by photographer George Wallace . He photographed both rural and urban Mexico in the 60 ’ s . He studied photography with Ansel Adams in the ‘ 40s .
Altars were set up and exhibited by Mount Madonna High School students and members of the community . The focus of this year ’ s main altar and folkloric entertainment was the state of Oaxaca , Mexico . There were also Aztec dancers , Calpulli Izcalli , who explained the meaning and significance of the altars , and danced in honor of all who had passed away . Dia de los Muertos is held annually to remember and honor family members and friends who have passed away .
HALLOWEEN BEER CRAWL

The first-ever Halloween Beer Crawl , held on October 25 , in Downtown Gilroy was a rousing success ! Twenty Downtown pour stations hosted twenty , carefully selected craft breweries . The more than 400 attendees came dressed as a variety of Halloween characters , or in support of the San Francisco Giants , who also played that night . Rave reviews about the event have been shared with Downtown businesses and the planning committee alike ! And special congratulations to the “ Papa and Mama Smurf ” who won the costume contest held at the after-party on Fifth Street . Mark your calendars for the first Downtown Gilroy event of 2015 , the Art and Wine Stroll , held on Saturday , May 31 . Join Us Downtown !
